We Advance Good Change

Welcome to the Winchester Area NAACP Branch where we are advancing good change in the community. Our branch was formed in 1944, by over 200 black residents who were tired of the injustices that they and their families faced in the Jim Crow South.

Even though the Jim Crow and Massive Resistance eras have crumbled under the mighty power of the civil rights movement, and effective policies, like the Voting Rights Acts of 1965 and 1968, the attack on the capital on January 6, 2021, the misinformation about Critical Race Theory that has divided school boards from accomplishing their main educational goals, the inequitable healthcare disparities caused by COVID 19 in minority communities, and the rescinding of voting rights laws cause us to be more engaged in the fight to keep the civil rights freedom flame going!  We still have work to do.

Our branch membership is very active in finding ways to eradicate the effects of racism that still plague our way of life today. We hope that you will join us in our mission to advance good change and bring equitable solutions to the community we serve. We will continue the advancement of good change in supporting the following:

Continuation of fair voting rights,
Development of educational initiatives that gives students a chance to reach their full potential,
Accessibility to equitable banking products that create economic wealth and stability for all, and
Dialogue with local leaders about unfair  social issues in the community,

W.E.B Du Bois stated:
“Now is the accepted time, not tomorrow, not some more convenient season. It is today that our best work can be done and not some future day or future year.”

Best Regards,
Mike Faison
