About the event

The first Alopecia awareness walk, being sponsored by Vanessa Martin, who is an African American woman that has a beauty supply store in Winchester, Virginia.  She's creating more awareness about Alopecia as so many women are affected by this condition.

I am advocating for the alopecia areata community here in Winchester, Virginia.

National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF)  Walk For Alopecia®

As the owner of ISLA Beauty Supply and Hair, I have seen firsthand how many friends and neighbors—especially within the Black community—are affected by alopecia. As a wig store owner, I was deeply moved by how many people are living with this condition and the challenges it brings. Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease that affects women, men, and children of all ages. It causes hair loss, but its impact goes far beyond appearance. Many people also experience significant emotional and mental distress.

The Winchester Virginia Walk For Alopecia® event will take place on September 26, 2026 from 9:00 am -…
